ZOE + KRISTIAN
Back in August, we had the pleasure of welcoming Zoe and Kristian to the barns for their big day!
Adding lots of personal touches throughout the barns and sourcing their own decorations, this couple made sure that they had a day to remember with their nearest and dearest.

PICKING THE DRESS
I always knew in my head that I wanted a dress with lace up the top and not a boob tube dress, not really sure why guess I felt more elegant in a lace dress than boob tube. I'm one to keep more covered but I still had to try all styles of dresses to confirm that and I was right.
The dress made me feel amazing, was so comfortable and the fit was made perfect couldn't have been happier with the dress.
SUITED + BOOTED
Our original plan was for men to have grey suits but from the start Kristian wanted to stand out as a groom so we were thinking of ways we could do this. However, when we went out suit shopping, he found a lovely suit which was a perfect fit and exactly what he wanted. Once we purchased this it then changed our minds on the men's suits as grey didn't go with Kristian’s suit. We took the men out to try suits and ended up buying navy suits which went well with Kristian’s. We also brought pink ties for the men and navy for Kristian. The men did look smart all together. Me and Kristian went with the flow of the men to see what they were comfortable in but we did say that they had to be navy suits. We purchased the mens suits from Next.
We also had our 5 year old son as a page boy/best man. He done amazing throughout the whole day and looked so handsome. We made him stand out by his suit being a slightly different blue to the men and we purchased this from Monsoon.
THE VENUE + DECORATION
We had both always wanted a barn and not a church. We were googling which barn venues were around and we had been to look at a few different ones but instantly fell in love with the Granary. We liked the fact there were 2 separate barns for the ceremony and wedding breakfast the venue was just perfect for us.
We decorated the venue with a vintage style theme. We brought a lot of the decorations ourselves and hired the log centre pieces. The tables were dressed by the team at Hall & Co. Event Design. Hall & Co also decorated the flint barn for us with fairy lights and ivy - it was lovely!
We actually made the bouquets and button holes ourselves with help from parents and bridesmaids. We enjoyed doing this and they looked just as good as professionals. We mainly choose gyp, roses and carnations as they worked well together and I've always liked gyp and roses.
We added in some pink roses to bring in another colour so they were not to plain. The men then had pink roses as button holes and pink ties which tied it in nicely together.
THE BRIDE SQUAD
We had 4 bridesmaids and a flower girl. It was just a matter of getting everyone together and to arrange to go dress shopping, but in the meantime, I went to town and looked in a shop I wouldn't have usually looked in for bridesmaid dresses and found a lovely navy dress. I tried it on and sent pictures to the girls and they all really liked it. I purchased different sizes for them all to try and they were a hit... Wasn't the shopping way I planned but I liked them and had to buy them! The dresses were from Quiz.
We found the flower girl dress from Debenhams for our 3 year old daughter which looked adorable.
If I'm honest this was the bit I was most worried about in case I just couldn't get my words out or messed it up in front of lots of people! I was both nervous and excited. Some advice I had from a friend was you won't take much notice of people around you as you will be in your own little bubble and now I couldn't agree more in that moment it feels like it's just you two. The ceremony felt like it was over quickly but felt a lot happened in that time. It was overwhelming having all our friends and family with us to celebrate our special day, it meant a lot to us both.
We did remember most of the ceremony but even for a few days after the wedding we were still piecing the day together as people saw/heard different things. The flint barn looked amazing and we couldn't have been happier!
We choose to have Hall & Co do our catering. We picked them from the Granary’s suppliers list and got in contact. We then arranged a tasting session - the food was amazing!
We chose to have canapes at the drink reception, an afternoon tea for our wedding breakfast and hot food in the evening. We needed to cater for a vegetarian and a low fat diet to which was done perfectly and the feedback we had from quests was all positive and lovely comments on all of the food throughout the day.
So after looking at and booking the Granary Barns, we both decided we wanted a band for the evening as it just sets off the barns and adds the finishing touches for us. We had around 30 more evenings guests, to which they all had a good night and enjoyed the music.
Our first dance was to a song called "Glory of Love". This wasn't a personal song to us but we wanted to listen to the words and this song was perfect for us and we still love listening to it. We also had the confetti cannons for our first dance and again we had such positive comments and makes for great photos.
The evening for us was really nice and gave us some special moments together. After cutting the cake we had our first dance and then just danced the night away with family and friends.
We kept looking around for photographers and found it so hard to choose! We decided to go with the very talented Mark (Mark Cribb Photography). My sister-in-law used Mark for her wedding and as we had seen his work and met him previously, we felt very confident in our decision., Our wedding package also included a pre-wedding photo shoot which we had done with the children. Mark is from Cleethorpes but agreed to come and shoot our wedding in Cambridge.
Mark started his morning with the men around 9am and left the venue around 9-10pm. He worked so hard all day and his photos were so worth it! We have our photos back and they are amazing. We haven't yet done anything with the photos but our plan is to get a printed photo album for us and family members and also we have some lovely photo frames ready to fill with all the pictures.
TAKE MY ADVICE…
We both enjoyed the planning process - we would buy things as we went along. As we booked the venue 2 years in advance we had plenty of time to sort things out. We brought the little bits as we saw them and brought the bigger bits closer to the time.
After booking the venue we made sure we had booked a photographer, band, caterers and photo booth so all of the main things were booked. The planning process went smoothly and surprisingly didn't stress us out too much!
We wouldn't change a thing about our day and wouldn't have added anything or taken anything away. We have since been to a wedding and again there isn't anything we thought we should/shouldn't have had. The day was perfect for us and everything we dreamed of and more. We had such amazing comments on the venue - we just knew it was the right choice.
Our advice for any future bride and groom's would be to just enjoy your day and remember to take a moment together. It was nice when the photographer took us away for photos together because you just enjoy some time out and take it all in. The Granary Girls were amazing from the day we viewed the barn all the way up until the wedding. We felt confident they had it all in hand and will never be able to thank them enough for helping us!
