We sat down with Bethany Smith, the photographer behind some of our most-loved images here at The Granary Estates, to find out more about her approach, what she loves about the venue, and the advice she gives every couple she works with.

How would you describe what you do?
Bethany’s photography is all about telling the real story of your day. “I’m focused on capturing natural, story-driven imagery that reflects real moments and genuine atmosphere”. Her approach is relaxed and unobtrusive, she works in the background, letting events unfold naturally while documenting the details, emotions, and energy as they happen.
If you had to sum it up in just a few words? “Relaxed and joyful wedding storytelling.”

What is your signature style?
Fun, relaxed and joy-led.
Bethany’s priority is making sure couples are fully present on their wedding day, actually enjoying it, spending time with their guests, and soaking up every moment. She works efficiently and quietly in the background, capturing genuine emotions and natural interactions alongside beautiful portraits, without long photo sessions or forced poses.
“The result is a collection of images that feel real, emotional and timeless, while letting the day unfold exactly as it should.”
But it’s not just about the photography itself, it’s about the relationship. Bethany genuinely invests in her couples and loves getting to know them. “I look for genuine connection, and I love getting emotionally invested in you and your day,” she says. “When couples make me feel included, the photos come from that perspective and feel so much more personal.” And if you were wondering… she’s also great fun to have around on the day.

What’s special about The Granary Estates?
Bethany describes The Granary Estates as a wonderful combination of beautiful indoor spaces with real character, a stunning courtyard, and gorgeous grounds that all photograph beautifully.
“Everything feels spacious but is all close enough together that you never have to stray too far from guests, and it doesn’t take long to move between parts of the day. It has a great flow to it.”
The grounds offer so many portrait options, the team are warm and experienced, and the character of the spaces perfectly suits her natural, light-filled style.
A favourite memory from The Granary Estates
Bethany has two standout moments here, and both are rather special. The first was a New Year’s Eve wedding in 2024, the midnight countdown followed by confetti cannons and dancing, which she describes as one of her all-time favourite wedding memories.
The second? Her own sister’s wedding in September 2025. It doesn’t get much more personal than that!

What is your top wedding planning tip?
Bethany’s advice is simple but powerful: remember it’s YOUR day. You don’t have to follow a specific timeline, tick every tradition, or do anything that doesn’t feel like you. Be guided by practicality, yes, but beyond that, do what feels right.
She also has something to say about budgeting: “Photos and video are some of the only tangible things you’ll have after your big day. It’s worth thinking about how much you value that when you’re planning.” A gentle nudge, but an important one.
Any trends you’re loving right now?
Bethany is keeping a close eye on the trends shaping weddings at the moment. Her current favourites include:
• Champagne towers and sprays
• Outdoor toasts
• Outfit changes throughout the day
• Hyper-personalised details like handwritten notes to guests
