We sat down with Helen, Owner and Artist behind Helen Hird Illustrations, to chat all about her live wedding illustration service, her signature style and her top tips for couples thinking about something truly special for their guests at The Granary Estates.

How would you describe what you do?

"I'm a live wedding illustrator, which means I come to your wedding at The Granary Estates and illustrate your guests on the day. It's the perfect blend of wedding favour and live entertainment, a lovely keepsake created right in the heart of your celebration.

I have been illustrating within the wedding industry on a commission basis for 10 years, but introducing live illustration to my services is something I'm incredibly passionate about. I love being immersed in the energy of the day, creating timeless illustrations for your guests to treasure.

I'm joined by my wonderful assistant, who photographs guests as they arrive and mingle, allowing me to begin their bespoke illustrations straight away. Your guests can continue enjoying the celebrations, or watch their artwork come to life."

Fashion-stylised. Painted from scratch. Completely bespoke.

What is your signature style?

"With a fashion background and previous experience working with clients including Vogue UK and Glamour magazine, I aim to bring a fashion-focused sensibility to every piece I create. My illustrations aren't cartoon, they're elegant, stylised artworks that feel timeless rather than novelty.

Every single piece is created completely from scratch, because every one of your guests is unique and I believe their illustration should be too. I take no shortcuts when crafting each bespoke artwork, and I don't use any digital processes. I'm passionate about preserving a traditional, timeless feel — choosing watercolour and pen as my tools to create hand-finished illustrations that guests will treasure long after the confetti has settled."

A favourite memory from The Granary Estates

"One of my highlights was attending my first wedding showcase. I remember feeling nervous, thinking it might be a daunting day — but it couldn't have been further from the truth. The moment I stepped through the beautiful doors at The Granary Estates, I was met with the warmest welcome.

The wedding industry is truly one of the friendliest, and everyone at The Granary Estates — from the venue staff to the suppliers — is deeply passionate about making every guest's day magical and memorable. Seeing that dedication firsthand was incredibly inspiring, and being able to be a part of it since my very first showcase has been incredibly special."

What are your top tips for couples thinking about wedding favours and entertainment?

"When it comes to wedding favours, always choose something that won't be left behind. We've all seen favours scattered across tables at the end of the evening — and after so much thought and investment goes into those details, that's the last thing you want.

With live illustrations, there's no mistaking whose piece belongs to who. Watching guests eagerly show each other their illustrations, grinning from ear to ear, is proof that these keepsakes will be taken home and truly treasured — a favour worth every penny.

And in terms of entertainment, while suppliers often have set packages, don't be afraid to ask for something custom. It's your big day, and we're happy to work with you to create a service that fits your celebration perfectly."

Any trends you're loving right now?

"As a fashion girlie, I love keeping an eye on bridal trends. My favourite upcoming trend for '26/'27 is feathers — from feather boas to delicate feather trims. They're making a real statement for brides, bridesmaids, and wedding guests alike, appearing on the catwalk and recently at the chic wedding of fashion writer Polly Newman, cementing the trend even further."
